Boston Mayor Marty Walsh on Cannabis
Mayor Walsh on cannabis
Mayor Walsh is furthering classic negative cannabis propaganda.. The Gateway theory has been thoroughly debunked and most people in our modern culture are aware that it has.
It is painful to see our Mayor be so ignorant and misinformed on the issue of cannabis.. makes us wonder who he is talking to about cannabis..?
I would be willing to bet that they are people who gain an income from or are otherwise friendly with one of the four top industries that oppose cannabis legalization?
Law Enforcement, Prisons, Alcohol, and Tobacco?
Mayor Walsh comes from an slightly earlier local subculture of alcohol and drug abuse… where drugs are bad, people who do drugs are bad, and everyone is supposed to just say no, and not think about it anymore… This has always been an ignorant position that criminalizes normal healthy human behavior. Everyone does drugs, some are more dangerous than others.. and some have been mislabeled as dangerous due to racism or social and political reasons.. not health reasons or safety reasons..
Sugar is a drug, Caffeine is a drug, both more dangerous than cannabis. People die from too much sugar in their diet everyday.. Caffeine is a drug by any definition of the word and is sold to children throughout the world… not illegal. and not dangerous..
Its not hard to know the truth about cannabis. Mayor Walsh should get the facts straight and get on the right side of this issue or risk continuing to look ignorant, and causing his city to fall behind, in one of the fastest growing industries in the nation.
Continued prohibition does not serve legal patients.. it serves those that have been enjoying the benefits of cannabis prohibition. Law Enforcement, alcohol industry, tobacco industry, prison industry both public and private, and criminals of course..
This is the digital age after all…
Sounds like a political thought process going on? Not a public safety one..
Public safety would take into account mass incarceration and the drug war, which Mayor Walsh is probably uninformed of in those areas as well.

Scientists long ago abandoned the idea that marijuana causes users to try other drugs: as far back as 1999, in areport commissioned by Congress to look at the possible dangers of medical marijuana, the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences wrote:
Since then, numerous other studies have failed to support the gateway idea. Every year, the federal government funds two huge surveys on drug use in the population. Over and over they find that the number of people who try marijuana dwarfs that for cocaine or heroin. For example, in 2009, 2.3 million people reported trying pot — compared with 617,000 who tried cocaine and 180,000 who tried heroin. (More on Time.com: See photos of cannabis conventions)

…its embarrassing and depressing that our city leadership is so ignorant and uninformed when it comes to these issues.
